Bouncing back to Bodø

The next morning was departure day for Hugh and Liz. They had booked a fast ferry from Svolvær to Bodø at 6am. Several alarms went off in near perfect synchronicity at 5am, bags were hoisted off the the boat and the final gesture before saying goodbye was a check of the ‘Reis’ travel app. What …. ferry cancelled ….? Without warning it seemed that Reis Nordland had just decided not to run the ferry. Hugh & Liz nipped over to the high-speed ferry jetty and, while there was a ferry there, there was not a single member of staff, passenger or anyone else, so it definitely seemed that it was cancelled.

Change of plan – we will act as the ferry. We can’t go as fast as the high-speed ferry, but we should still be able to get them there before their flight early the next day. So – we rapidly dropped the lines, headed out, hoisted the main and genoa and set sail straight through to Bodø. We managed to sail much of the way across, but towards the end a slightly squally patch of weather meant that we decided to motor-sail the last couple of hours, but nevertheless a lovely sail. We finally moored in Bodø at 4.30pm after a 63 mile sail.
