Lingering in Lofoten

The forecast for the day in Svolvær was not inspiring, so we made an alternative plan. We decided to hire a car and try and fill in some of the gaps in our Lofoten coastal trip. We carefully studied the Lofoten map, stuck a few pins in and headed off. Our route took around Gimsøya, past the only golf course on Lofoten (Lofoten Links) and past some lovely beaches. Then on to Vestvågøy and around to some amazing beaches. At Haukland beach we stopped and had a coffee and then headed through the tunnel through Mannen and on to Uttakleiv beach.

Once we were beached out (that happens a little quicker in the wind and rain!), we drove down to Leknes and found a very nice restaurant for a relaxed lunch. Then the drive back – this time along the southern side of the island chain, but following the coast as much as possible. We dropped the car back at 4pm – exactly when we had said, though even though we had driven much of the day, we had, relatively speaking, not added much mileage to the car – it started the day at 180,000km on the clock! A great way to get a flavour of the Lofoten Islands – particularly the bits we had missed.
