A slightly quieter day today. We started by catching the free Cityhopper ferry from Dockside (right by the hotel) across the river to Sydney Street. From there we walked along the riverside path to New Farm Park. This is a lovely old park full of roses, which were still just out though almost over, and jacaranda trees. The names jacaranda is believed to be of South American origin and means fragrant. Given that they are all huge trees, we didn’t test the fragrance, but the colour was beautiful.
At the end of the park was a farmer’s market and this gave me the opportunity to become a proper Aussie. I am now the proud owner of a kangaroo leather hat. Given a temperature of 29 degrees C and clear skies, this is actually a necessity rather than luxury.
From there we headed back to apartment and later in the afternoon drove out to Clayfield to see Jen’s apartment. She cooked us a lovely meal including a starter of excellent Moreton Bay Bugs. These are also known as flathead lobsters or slipper lobsters and they have a very delicate flavour. They are more properly known as Thenus Orientalis.
The meal was rounded off really well with a win for England beating the All Blacks. Perhaps it is a good thing we are in Australia now!
