Vindö Marin started as a boatbuilder in 1926 adopting their approach from Nötesund’s Shipyard, which started building boats on Vindön Island in 1926. The building of boats continued through to the 1970s when their distinctive varnished topsides boats became very well known. There was even an agent for Vindö in Tollesbury in the 1970s and 80s. They eventually finished building boats in 1990. At the yard this morning were several of their boats and they still maintain and restore them.

Since then they have reinvented themselves as a full service maintenance yard and they are a very good one and this morning were incredibly helpful. By 8.30am they had a rigger on the case repairing our broken main halyard and by 9.30am it was spliced and fitted and we were ready to leave. So leave we did …. As we left though we did wonder whether they might have diversified a little further than we realised with a seaplane berthed exactly where we had been a couple of days earlier.

From there we motored slowly up into Uddevalla. The weather was a bit murky and grey and it even threatened to rain at one point, but having threatened, it then gave up as if it couldn’t be bothered to follow through with the threat. By the time we had moored up at the gästhamn the sun was breaking through and it eventually took charge.
Around lunchtime we headed off to the station to meet Pat and Stephen who arrived from Gothenburg. At the same time Ric headed off home, crossing over for just a few minutes at Uddevalla station. Once back on board we headed off towards Gustafsberg. The appearance of a light breeze, together with the fact that someone had nicked the space on our favourite jetty at Gustafsberg meant we decided to head on the Slussen on the east side of Orust. We managed to short tack in a very light breeze most of the way there, but finally gave up around 6.30pm and motored down to the jetty. There we found ourselves the only boat apart from a work boat, though the swimming platform further round the bay seemed to be incredibly popular. We were surprised people were swimming at all, but certainly weren’t surprised that no-one stayed in the water for very long. The water is still just 13 degrees …..
