A relaxed morning this morning. A bit of shopping and a bit of visiting …. Once that was done, we headed off around lunchtime to Oldenborg. The weather was bright sunshine and calm when we left, but this is Norway in the summer – a season which gives you a teaser of warm weather and then cruelly drags it away and dumps water and often wind on you instead. Sure enough, that is what it did. We had been going around an hour and we saw a bank of misty low cloud. Given that we are now getting the hang of this variability, we put full waterproofs on, and, two minutes later, they were justified. Along with the rain, we went from flat calm to 20 knots of wind. This would have been nice if it had been coming from behind, but it wasn’t. Round here, the wind is either behind you or in front and it was the latter!
So, we carried on motoring until we got to Oldenborg. This is a small harbour for the Kristiansund sailing club and they kindly allow guests to moor. In fact there was no-one to check with when we arrived, but a couple of boats turned up later and were very friendly. Eventually the rain eased off and we decided to celebrate with a beer ashore. Unfortunately we had company in the form of various flying beasties (including for the first time some mozzies), so we accepted defeat and retreated back on board to drink there. A good day, despite the best attempts of the weather …..
