This morning at Oldenborg was flat calm, so we had little expectation of a sail to Kristiansund, which was only five miles away. However, as we got out into open water a lovely breeze sprang up – around 10-12 knots from the northeast. It seemed a waste to put sails up and not make the most of a good sailing breeze, so, rather than heading in through the western entrance to Kristiansund, we decided to loop around the top of the island and go in the eastern entrance. This made for a passage of about 12 miles rather than just five, so we got a good sail around. The wind increased a little so we did put a reef in, but for the last twenty minutes or so, we should really have taken it out, but we didn’t want the sail to be over too quickly, so stuck with the smaller rig.
In Kristiansund guest harbour we found a berth, though as ever at the weekend, spaces can fill up quickly during the day.
