From Smenessundet we decided to head further inland into the fjords behind Kristiansund. We headed for a small jetty mentioned in the pilot book called Tingvoll. This is just outside the Tingvoll Hotel and while it would be very exposed to much breeze from the west, we were expecting a calm night anyway. We had a really nice run (mostly) though it was a lesson in the variability of weather in the fjords. We started in bright sunshine with a light breeze, sailing some of the time, but having to motor occasionally to maintain speed. We then suddenly saw a band of rain coming and just had time to get waterproofs on before the wind and rain arrived. With winds gusting 24 knots, it was lively, but with main only we hurtled around the corner, under the bridge and into the Tingvollfjorden. Then just a few miles from the destination, the wind switched off again and the sun came out!
Luckily there was no-one on the jetty so we moored there for the night, though we did wonder how much it was used anyway. However, they were very helpful and provided us with a room to use the shower and toilet and we ate out for the evening there.
