This morning we wandered around Nelson. Nelson is the oldest city in the South Island and the second-oldest settled city in New Zealand – it was established in 1841 and was proclaimed a city by royal charter in 1858. The town was named after Nelson and some of the roads in the town are named after people and ships associated with the Battle of Trafalgar. The main road through town is called Trafalgar Street. We visited the cathedral and the botanic gardens and wandered around the shops a bit. The town has a lovely open feel and it is about a half hour walk back up the hill to where Tom and Vicky are. From their house there is a lovely view over Tasman Bay and Nelson port.
In the afternoon, the weather was not great, but we headed down to the marina to see Tom and Vicky’s fleet. Sunstone is still in the marina, though she is up for sale. we went on board to have a look round and then moved on to look at their new boat – a Craddock 36 called Ekanta.
